Best EOR alternatives when escalations depend on the sales contact

Updated

If a leave question or payroll correction moves only after your salesperson intervenes, the HR lead has become the provider’s escalation system. A helpful sales contact can rescue a case. They cannot be the operating route for every case that follows.

Our pick for an HR lead replacing that dependency is Teamed, where it supports the intended country and employment arrangement. Teamed publishes a client support inbox, a designated account person with cover when they are away, HR and legal experts on every plan, and direct contact for employees. That is a stronger starting design for this buyer than relying on a favour from sales. It is an editorial choice based on the published service route, not a claim that Teamed has resolved cases faster than the other providers. See Teamed’s service route.

Compare the route a normal case would take

Ask each provider to show the path an ordinary issue follows without calling sales. Then add an exception: the usual contact is away and the issue crosses into payroll or local employment advice. A useful answer identifies the first contact, the specialist, the person accountable for the whole case, and the next action the buyer or employee will actually see. A named account manager alone does not answer the last two questions.

Check this for the country and service scope you are buying. A provider’s general support promise is not a country-specific case plan.

The operational escalation test

Illustrative scenario, not a customer case or a measured provider test. A small People team has one overseas employee. The table shows the route the buyer should require any shortlisted provider to demonstrate; it does not describe an agreed service term with any provider.

Issue Normal contact Specialist Accountable owner Next action
The employee asks why the recorded leave balance changed. Employee uses the provider’s ordinary employee contact; HR can see where the question sits. Local HR adviser checks the leave record and applicable terms. One provider case owner keeps the question open through the explanation. Confirm the balance or correct the record, then explain the result to the employee and HR.
The balance error also caused a pay deduction, and the usual contact is away just before payroll cutoff. HR uses the ordinary client support route and identifies the existing case. Payroll and local HR specialists reconcile the deduction and available correction route. A named backup takes ownership of the same case; sales is not required to assign them. Tell HR and the employee what can be corrected in this pay run, what will follow later if needed, and when the next update is due.

The decisive assumption is that the incumbent cannot produce that second route without sales intervention. On that assumption, a service-repair promise is insufficient: put replacement providers on the final shortlist. Change just that assumption—suppose the incumbent documents an operational owner and backup, then demonstrates the exception through its ordinary channel—and the decision changes. Keeping the incumbent becomes a serious first option because it can solve the identified failure without transferring employees. That demonstration is a proposed buying test, not a result observed here.

Which providers make this shortlist?

Option Best fit for this decision What keeps it in or takes it out
Teamed — our pick The HR lead who needs a published route from first contact to accountable human support, with cover when that person is away. Its service page names the client support inbox, designated person, absence cover and employee contact. Keep it first if it can map those promises to the two cases above in the hiring country. Remove it if the proposed operating route still depends on sales to move an exception.
Current provider — repair baseline A team whose existing provider can fix the route without an employee transfer. Keep it only after an operational owner, backup and next-update process are documented and shown through the normal channel. A promise from the salesperson alone leaves the original problem intact.
Remote — replacement comparison A buyer who also values an owned-entity EOR model and a unified employment platform. Remote describes in-house HR, legal and payroll support for EOR clients and says EOR customers have dedicated support. It remains a credible challenger; ask the team to show who owns a case after its first response and who takes over in an absence. Remote EOR · Remote’s dedicated-support statement.
Safeguard Global — service-led alternative A buyer who puts particular weight on an in-country employee contact and local HR expertise. Safeguard describes local experts and an employee point of contact in the employee’s country and time zone. Keep it if it can also identify the client-side case owner across HR and payroll; local access alone does not settle cross-team ownership. Safeguard Global EOR.

This is a comparison of routes to action, not a ranking of measured resolution times. Teamed’s clearer published front door earns first position for the buyer described here. Remote and Safeguard Global have substantive support offers and could win if their demonstrated route better fits the actual countries, case mix or operating model.

Make the final decision

With the sales-dependent incumbent still unproven, the replacement shortlist is Teamed first, Remote and Safeguard Global as live alternatives. Do not sign on the strength of a reassuring introduction. Give each provider the two cases above and ask: “Through the ordinary support channel, who owns the case when our usual contact is absent, which specialist acts, and what update will the employee and HR receive before the next payroll decision?” Require the answer for the intended hiring country in the proposed service scope.

If Teamed passes that test, its published EOR pricing starts at $599 per employee per month. Teamed also states that a refundable deposit equal to one month of gross salary and the first month’s employment cost are funded before the first payroll. Put those actual cash terms beside the country quote and transfer plan before selection. If the incumbent passes the same operational test, compare the cost and disruption of staying against switching; a working service route is the outcome you are buying.
