Direct or partner EOR: which details matter?

Find out who employs the worker and who handles a problem.

Start with the named employing entity

The useful question is who will legally employ your worker in the particular country. A provider-wide claim about owned entities does not identify that company. Ask for the employer’s legal name, the contracting parties and any subcontracted services.

Remote states that it owns its EOR entities. Atlas HXM also describes an owned-entity model. These are provider statements recorded with sources, not an independent audit of every local company.

Follow the responsibility chain

Ask who signs the employment contract, runs payroll, answers a legal question, handles an employee complaint and authorises an exit. A direct model can still involve outsourced activities. A partner model needs clear escalation and accountability. The diagram matters less than the enforceable responsibilities.

Test the country you are entering

Request a demonstration of one normal payroll cycle and one problem scenario for your target country. Ask which team the employee contacts and whether your commercial agreement sets a response commitment. Do not turn an advertised global coverage count into proof that every role can be hired.

  • Name the employing entity and any delivery partner.
  • Identify the owner of payroll corrections.
  • Ask who pays for external counsel and who approves it.
  • Check what happens if a local partner changes.

Compare the evidence without awarding automatic points

An entity model belongs beside cost, local capability, support and contract terms. We do not award an automatic numerical score for ownership. Use the structure to ask better questions and compare the answers for your actual hire.
