Switching EOR providers: what should you check?

Protect the handover before comparing the next monthly fee.

Build the transition plan before cancelling

An EOR switch requires coordination between commercial agreements and employee arrangements. Ask both providers for the process, dependencies and proposed dates before sending a cancellation notice. Local review should confirm how continuity and accrued rights are handled.

The new provider’s service fee is one input. Include old-provider charges, outstanding deposits, benefits changes and any period when you need to fund both arrangements.

Get the exit costs in writing

Ask for a final-invoice scenario and a deposit-release schedule. Distinguish a service cancellation charge from employee-related liabilities. Confirm which costs require your approval before the provider commits to them.

A customer complaint about termination costs is useful as a question to investigate, but it is not a substitute for your contract. Our research keeps individual experiences separate from verified contractual terms.

Give the employee one clear explanation

Confirm who will explain the new agreement, benefits, payroll dates and support route. Ask whether a new contract changes the employee’s terms and who reviews that locally. Arrange the data handover using the providers’ approved processes.

  • Reconcile salary, leave and expense balances.
  • Confirm benefit enrolment and any coverage gap.
  • Document first payroll and funding deadlines.
  • Obtain required employee communications and signatures.

Close out both sides

After the first new payroll, reconcile the old final invoice, deposit and employee records. Keep the transition log and any unresolved issues. A signed new agreement is a milestone; a completed and reconciled handover is the outcome.
